HISTORY - Arundel Garden Cottage was built in 1920 in what is now Pinehurst’s Historic District known as Old Town. It was originally owned by the Masterson family from England. They named the cottage after an English castle.   We bought the cottage from George Masterson in l983. We renovated, landscaped and restored it’s "Old Town" charm. In 1996 we built a new house on the adjacent lot where we now reside. We then furnished and equipped the cottage as an affordable vacation rental home for golf, tennis, equestrian, croquet, hiking and biking enthusiasts wanting to experience the Sandhills Region of Central North Carolina.  We have since managed and maintained the home ourselves with our quests’ comfort and convenience in mind.

MORE ABOUT THE COTTAGE & THE PINEHURST AREA

The cottage is tastefully furnished and impeccably clean. There are 2 large living areas. One in the front of the house and one in the back. They are separated by a fully equipped kitchen and a dining porch. The cottage accommodates up to 8 guests. There are 3 bedrooms. Two large bedrooms have 3 single beds. The back bedroom has two singles. We can make a king in each of these rooms upon request. There is a screened-in front porch and a garden patio for those who wish to smoke. We do not allow smoking in the cottage. There is a dressing room and two full baths with showers.

We provide everyday household necessities such as linens/towels (beds are made prior to arrival), fresh flowers/herbs, coffee/tea, paper towels/toilet/tissue paper, dish detergent. There is a laundry room with full size washer and dryer. The kitchen is fully equipped. The neighborhood grocery is nearby. The cottage offers the quaintness of small town life in what is now such a popular resort community.

What makes it particularly special is it’s location! It is one and a half blocks from the famed Pinehurst No.2 Golf Course, home of the 1999 and the 2005 Men's US Open Golf Championship! Moore County has earned international recognition with golf courses designed by the likes of Donald Ross, Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, and Gary Player. With more than 40 golf courses within a 25 mile-radius, the area offers a variety of year-round golfing opportunities for the novice to the pro.

The village center of Pinehurst is within walking distance. There are a variety of specialty shops, coffee houses, restaurants, pubs, a post office, library, golf archive/museum and an ATM. There is also a large and popular community built playground and a 1/2 mile nature trail through Rasser Wicker Park as well as a two mile wooded trail around Reservoir Park in Southern Pines. The Horticultural Gardens at Sandhills Community College are spectacular! The North Carolina Zoological Park is in nearby Ashboro. The Pinehurst Harness Track offers horse racing, shows and polo on weekends. Antiquing in Cameron and shopping/dining in Southern Pines is always successful. Our guests can also visit the Moore Regional Health and Fitness Club ($9 a visit) where they can use the  pool, sauna, weight room, play racquet ball, etc. Or they can just relax in the hot tub on our garden patio. Our entertainment room is equipped with a CD stereo system and a VCR. An audio and video library is provided for both adults and children. There is also a piano and a game table in the parlor, games and cards provided.

We look forward to having you as guests at our cottage. Please feel free to call us if you have any questions.

                                          Sincerely, Susan and David Raff
